I was unaware of this before but apparently lodestone golem causes creatures that you cascade into to cost more thus make it uncastable of the cascade

"Lodestone Golem – the ability of Lodestone Golem basically stops Cascade, because it not only makes Bloodbraind Elf or Bituminous Blast more expensive, but also the spell that is cascaded into"

Unless I have mis-interpreted the Blackborder article, what they are saying isn't true.

From the Alara Reborn FAQ

The official rules for cascade are as follows:

502.85. Cascade

502.85a Cascade is a triggered ability that functions only while the spell with cascade is on the stack. "Cascade" means "When you play this spell, remove cards from the top of your library from the game until you remove a nonland card whose converted mana cost is less than this spell's converted mana cost. You may play that card without paying its mana cost. Then put all cards removed from the game this way that weren't played on the bottom of your library in a random order."

Lodestone Golem rulings from the Wizards website

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=191557

3/1/2010 The ability affects each spell that's not an artifact spell, including your own.
3/1/2010 The ability affects the total cost of each nonartifact spell, but it doesn't change that spell's mana cost or converted mana cost.

How the golem works is like so:

-On my turn, I tap four mana and play Lodestone Golem. I pass my turn.

-On your turn, you tap five mana and play Bloodbraid Elf (an extra colourless is required because of the golem's static ability). You get to cascade. You reveal a Sprouting Thrinax and because it's cmc is less than BBE, you get to cast it for free. However, because of the golem you must now also pay an additional 1 colourless for the thrinax. If you are unable to pay then the thrinax can not be cast and must be placed on the bottom of your library.

Lodestone Golem could have been the answer to Jund decks, if only it had greater than 3 toughness.

01/03/2010 When determining a spell's total cost, effects that increase the cost are applied before effects that reduce the cost.
