just wanna make sure I've read this right. check out how it reads on gatherer:

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=193748

so. I can tap a plains, in response to manabarbs triggering, I tap another plains, in response to that, I celestial purge manabarbs. it resolves - manabarbs exiled, manabarbs damage, manabarbs damage. But manabarbs is exiled so I take no damage right?

this could also be done with safe passage.

The manabarbs triggered abilities are still on the stack. You still take the damage. Its like lightning bolting an elvish piper in response to its ability.

You would still take the damage. The triggered abilities exist independant of their source and still resolve.

However, this gave me a cool idea:

Player A: I cast Manabarbs.
Player B: In response, I tap for 2 floating mana (no damage as barbs is not yet in play).
--Manabarbs resolves
Player A: I end my main phase
Player B: In response, I cast Celestial Purge (using the 2 floating mana)
--Purge resolves destroying the Barbs.

what about with safe passage though?

if i cast safe passage in response to the triggers then the damage from manabarbs is prevented.
