Clone Empty
PostSubject: Clone   Clone EmptySun Dec 13, 2009 2:34 am

This question came up at a tournament yesterday. The answer I gave at the time was wrong, oops.

Quote :
* Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Clone enters the battlefield. Any "as [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[this creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the chosen creature will also work.

A player in the tourney cast Clone targeting an Elvish Visionary. In this case, the player who cast Clone would be able to make use of the cloned visionary's enters the battlefield triggered ability and drawn a card.

At least I was half right though.

Quote :
702.82a Cascade is a triggered ability that functions only while the spell with cascade is on the stack.

Cloning a Bloodbraid Elf would not allow the Clone's controller to cascade since the spell is no longer on the stack when Clone resolves.

Maybe it's just me, but what does Cascade have to do with Elvish Visionary?

Sam was just showing how Clone interacts with different cards.

Ah... it was still confusing.

So you can't clone anything with shroud then, and probably not anything with Protection from blue, or Protection from Shapeshifter... if that exists?

Actually you can clone something with shroud and/or protection from blue since Clone doesn't "target".

So what would that term of determination be called then? Selection?

It's more like Clone is targetting itself, "Clone becomes a copy of something".
