PostSubject: Player Rewards   Tue Jan 12, 2010 6:20 pm

Just got my first player rewards mailing today. Inside the letter was a spiffy new DCI card, a textless Nameless Inversion, a textless Infest and an oversized Comet Storm. The two textless cards are pretty cool and the DCI card is just like a credit card. On the back of the Comet Storm is a bit of info about Worldwake and shows the prerelease and release cards (Comet Storm and Joraga Warcaller).

So, you know, still gonna buy all Comet Storms for $1 Very Happy

Also, massive pic inc

I'm still one event away from qualifying for a mailing, so I'm a little jealous. Nice score.

As a side note, YEAH COMET STORM promo for pre-event.

I could as well, but I was really surprised about the GIANT Emrakul they used as an insert promoting Rise of the Eldrazi.

I didn't get my members card, as is supposed to be with the first mailing, so I'm a little choked.

Dusk and my player rewards came today. We got our membership cards too.
In total:

2x Lightning Bolt
5x Burst Lightning

1x Negate
1x Remove Soul
1x Ponder
1x Harmonize
1x Rampant Growth
1x Infest

All are for trade, except for four of the Burst Lightnings and the two Bolts would be hard to part with.

Posted on Salvation today by a player who just received their MPRs:
Quote :

"Attention Magic Player Rewards recipient:
Due to the increased success of Magic: The Gathering in 2010, we do not have enough Foil Lightning Bolt MPR reward cards to completely fulfill the June 2010 Magic Player Rewards mailing.

We gave enough to ensure that each player that is due foil lightning Bolt cards receives at least 1 foil Lightning Bolt MPR reward card. If you are owed more than 1 Lightning Bolt, instead you will receive 2 foil Cryptic Command MPR rewards cards for each Lightning Bolt you should have received.

We apologize for this and assure you that we are adjusting our process to ensure that in the future you receive the correct number of cards.

Thank You,

Wizards of the Coast"

Interesting. Personally I wouldn't mind getting the Cryptics (if this is true) as they'd definitely be useful in the new Extended.

Looked and the members card wasn't there. I will be complaining about this.

And about that Harmonize... you all know how tight-fisted I am when it comes to regular rares. This is tenfold :p

I have painfull memories playing against other people in constructed tournaments where they would run 4 cryptic commands. I wanted to buy some when they were in standard but they were about $25 each at the time.

Cryptic commands are awesome. Wish I had some coming to me instead of a lightning bolt. That's a pretty good trade off I think.

I got my MPR today. Only 4 cards and no foil so I don't know when their cutoff is. DCI website says they still owe me 4 more cards and the foil, next mailing I guess.

Doom Blade
Brave the Elements
Cancel
Burst Lightning

MPR is dead. The very last mailing will be in December and then nothing more after that.

Wizards has systematically removed all incentive to bother sanctioning events.

There is no longer any benefit for a TO to strive towards a premium ranking for the store as all premium events have been made available to core level TOs (and now only core level venues, but that is another argument). Also now there is no longer any benefit for a player to participate in sanctioned events, or even bother with a DCI account at all....

I wonder what this "increased player support" will be.

Wow Shocked Looks like Wizards is trying to cut costs.

There will still be value in having a DCI account for those people that want to play in the high level tournaments, regionals, pro tour, nationals etc... Beyond that I don't see any reason to have a DCI #.

I guess all we can do now is sit and wait to see what Wizards comes up with.

Wizards posted on their website months ago "Wizards of the Coast has decided to eliminate the Magic Player Rewards Program. blah blah blah ... In this case we are redirecting these resources to increase our player support for local organized play programs. "

Has this supposed increase in player support actually happened ? If so, what is Wizards doing differently ?
